War in Yemen

“The war in Yemen is not a regional issue, it is a global issue. It is a moral and humanitarian crisis that demands our urgent attention and action. We cannot allow innocent civilians to continue to suffer and die in a conflict that has no military solution.” – António Guterres

About

More than 20 million people are in need.

According to the United Nations, more than 20 million people in Yemen are in need of humanitarian assistance, including 12.4 million children.

Since the conflict began in 2015, over 230,000 people have been killed, including at least 3,000 children. The conflict has also displaced over 4 million people, and many are living in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, with limited access to clean water, food, and healthcare.

More than 2 million children in Yemen are acutely malnourished, and nearly 400,000 of them are suffering from severe acute malnutrition, which can be life-threatening.

Why we need your help

Yemen is facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises with millions of people in urgent need of assistance. An estimated 23.4 million people—almost three-quarters of the population—require some form of humanitarian assistance, including 14.3 million people who are in acute need. The situation has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, economic collapse, and a devastating conflict that has been raging since 2015.

The conflict has cost the lives of thousands of people and displaced over four million, a majority of whom are women and children. An estimated 11.3 million people are in need of protection assistance and over 8.1 million women and girls of childbearing age are in need of reproductive health services.

Women and girls are particularly vulnerable to abuse and exploitation, with one woman dying every two hours during childbirth. Nearly three million children are acutely malnourished and at risk of starvation, and the lack of access to health services means that diseases such as cholera and diphtheria are spreading rapidly.

Urgent assistance is needed for those in need of food, water, shelter and medical care, and to ensure that those affected by the conflict are protected. Long-term solutions are also needed to ensure that the population is able to rebuild their lives and build peace in the country.
