Zakat Al-Fitr

Zakat al Fitr (also known as Fitrana) is a charitable donation of food that must be given before Eid prayer, before the end of the month of Ramadan, for the love of Allah. Zakat al-Fitr is compulsory upon every self-supporting adult Muslim who has food in excess of their needs, on behalf of themselves and their dependents.

About

How Much Is Fitrana in the States?

Zakat al-Fitr is one sa’ (about 5 pounds) of wheat, barley, rice, flour, or dates. So the average price, according to Fiqh Council of North America, is about $15.

The payable Fitrana total is calculated at $15 from every able-bodied Muslim. This is the amount equivalent to one saa, or four times the amount of food that can be scooped up with both hands together and was designated by the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.

Fitrana or Zakat al-Fitr is time-sensitive; donate your Fitrana before Eid al-Fitr.
